Rider Report by Tom Portsmouth

In action on the Lee Valley Circuit

This winter I have been racing in the London Youth Track League at the Lee Valley Velodrome. It is the first time the league has been run, and it is also the first time I have raced on the track indoors. It’s really good fun, and last Thursday I had my best night so far. I race in group 3B. In the first Scratch race (18 laps) I came first. In the points race I came 7th. In the 4 lap dash I got pipped into 2nd place on the line by the rider who is second in the league table. And in the second Scratch race (25 laps with primes) I didn’t win any primes but I won the race overall.TomP_LYTL_2

At the moment I am leading the 3B league standings and can’t wait until the next race night! I hope there will be an elimination race next time as I have been learning about that a lot recently and want to try out some new tactics.

It’s great having some of the older Slipstreamers around, and I have learnt a lot from watching them race. There are also some of my friends from Charlotteville Rascals CC so it’s good to be able to chat with them too while we’re warming up or down on the rollers. It’s a long night and we don’t get home until late but it’s definitely worth it!

Well done Tom! If Tom has sparked your interested, visit the Youth Track League website here to find out more about upcoming races.
