Cyclo-Cross (CX) is not just for the Winter months! Throughout the year, there are number of Cyclo-Cross events, most of which are listed in the youth events section of the British Cycling web site. Click here to visit the events page where we have filtered the events to 50km of the Hillingdon Cycling Circuit. This filter has included other Go-ride and Time Trial events, so do look at the right hand column to confirm what type of racing the event is.

Saturday Session CX Training – Commencing 13th June

To prepare you for these events that are scheduled throughout the Summer, we will have a Cyclo-Cross coaching session and race on every 2nd Saturday of the month behind the clubhouse. As certain cycling events at Slipstreamers on a Saturday have priority, please always check Twitter and the News Hub to ensure that the Cyclo-Cross session is running. The very first session will be on the 13th June, so if you are are regular mountain biker but not attending the Wales weekend, do come and join us.

But I don’t have a CX bike?

For G0-Cross and many Cyclo-Cross events for youth, bikes other than Cyclo-Cross bikes are allowed. These bikes should have suitable tyres and brakes for cycling on grass and possible muddy conditions. Mountain and Hybrid bicycles are very suitable alternate. So don’t worry if you don’t have a CX bike – a MTB will do just fine! It is important to note, though, that road racing style cleats are not suitable as they are hard to get in and out of. Mountain bike style cleats are better and are actually used by cyclo-cross riders. If you prefer, no cleats are also acceptable, so feel free to put flat pedals on your bikes.

Finally…

This promises to be fun and challening! Many road and xc cyclists find that the added skills learned from cyclo-cross actually help their racing skills, so we do hope you’ll give it a go if you’ve never tried it before.

If you are intrigued, but aren’t sure what cyclo-cross is all about, do read this excellent overview on the BC website. Alternatively, feel free to email us if you have any questions about cyclo-cross in general.
