Event Report: Tour de Vale – 7th June 2015
By Zoe Allsop,  Slipstreamers MTB Coach

On Sunday 7th June, Slipstreamers siblings Lucy and Katie completed an awesome ride in the Tour de Vale!

A beautiful day in the Chilterns!

Fab Time Lucy!

Lucy was on a bit of a mission! We started with the first wave for the 25km lot, right at the front and she immediately spied a boy about the same age riding with his Dad wearing a tri-club jersey. We rolled off quite gently with Katie and Tim and then Lucy said she wanted to be the fastest person to ride the course, so we headed off and hunted the boy and Dad down! She attacked him on a hill and we were ahead for quite a while, then traffic meant they caught us up again. So she waited for another hill and attacked again!

About a mile before the finish an older boy with his Dad came past us. Lucy wasn’t having that and chased him all the way back to the Stadium, where we all got a little lost finding the finish (I think no-one expected anyone back so soon!). It worked in Lucy’s favour though as she managed to get into the stadium ahead of the older boy and sprinted for the line!

Katie rode with Dad Tim and fellow MTB club Summit’s Orla and Caz at a more leisurely pace. She also overtook lots of children on the hills and chatted all the way round. After a pit-stop at Caz’s Mum’s house (which was on the route) for juice, they took another leisurely ride back to the stadium. Katie liked hugging ‘Little Monster’ the best! 25km is quite an achievement for a 5 year old!

Well done Lucy & Katie – such a fantastic achievement!
