On the 6th & 7th of August 2015, a number of Slipstreamers joined professional cyclist and Team Sky rider, Ian Stannard, at his regular and very popular kids’ camp in Milton Keynes. Wisdom was shared, new skills were learned, and most important of all FUN was had! Of course, don’t take our word for it…

“Last Friday I went to a Go-Ride camp with Ian Stannard. When I got there I was really excited and couldn’t wait to meet him. After the warm up we got split into groups and the first activity was cornering where we learnt to dive bomb. It was such a great technique to use! Then we went into group riding where we met Ian and road around a course they made. The group played cops and robbers and Ian was the cops, so it was really hard to stay away from him! But we had help from the rest of the group. We also did some lead out and then practicing TT’s. Overall the whole experience was amazing. I had so much fun and I would love to do it again.”

“Riding with Ian Stannard was great fun!

The best bit was the “Cops and Robbers” session where one person gets picked out of the group and Ian Stannard has to try and catch them and the group members try to block him. It was really exciting having Ian Stannard chasing you. One guy tried to outsprint him, but Ian Stannard caught him in about two seconds!”

“We did lots of different bike skills: MTB, downhill, cornering and group riding. Ian gave everyone advice, he told me to “when you are going up hills only get out of your saddle if you are in your easiest gear and it is still hard“. He was really nice and signed my bike.”

“The day was awesome, Ian was really nice and friendly. He answered lots of questions and I asked him what he eats for breakfast and he said “Either porridge, omelette or rice with orange juice.” He rode around with every group and chatted with everyone.”

“On Friday 7th August, at the Milton Keynes Bowl, I went to the Ian Stannard holiday Kids Camp, and I was excited to be meeting him. The Team Sky powerhouse himself was coming for the day I was really excited to ride and meet him as well as him helping to coach and give important tips from his past experiences. After badly breaking my leg in November last year, this was a good opportunity to motivate myself to get back on the bike.

Over the course of the day we were put into groups and went round different parts of the circuit, working on different skills. Ian came round with each group and spoke to all of us and rode with us as well. After doing these activities to round off the day everyone did a Team Time Trial, and when everyone found out Ian was riding on one of the teams, people got competitive and race faces were put on.

And at the end of the day we got the opportunity for photos and signatures, and it was nice to see Ian being so enthusiastic to have photos taken with everyone. At the end of the day, something that made everyone laugh was when a little sibling of someone who was doing the course, asked Stannard to go for a ride with him over the grass, and Ian happily rode along with him, not even minding that his Pinarello Dogma was getting dirty. Overall, the day was really good meeting Ian, riding with him and asking him questions, I think that the other few Slipstreamers that went really enjoyed it too, and found it a great experience that I will remember.”

Thank you for sharing your amazing experiences with us Slipstreamers!
