Hillingdon Slipstreamers in Beyond Mountainbikes race series
Posted 08/04/08
The opening race of this short early Spring series on the 15th March attracted an unprecedented entry of almost 50 young riders from across the south and midlands of England. This large quality field gave the Hayes based Hillingdon Slipstreamers more that the usual
competition, which made the wins for Dan Maslin in the under 14s and Harry Tadman in the under 8s all the more
satisfying for the home club. Martin Dawkins was the best placed Slipstreamer in the under 16s with third place
Bad weather, a strong gusty wind form the north and occasional flurries of sleet, put the second race of the series on Saturday 22nd in doubt until an hour before the race was due to start. Then in the interests of safety the race officials decided only to allow the older riders to take part. Despite the weather the field of just 14 under 16 and under 14 riders completed a good race without incident. The eventual winner, Mark Baxter of Beyond Mountainbikes took the lead in the first lap and gradually increased his lead over the chasing group. In the chasing group David Swan of Hillingdon Slipstreamers held on to fifth place overall to finish first in the under 14s.
A field of 40 riders contested the final race in the series on Saturday 29th in much better weather. From the first lap under 16 Martin Dawkins of Hillingdon Slipstreamers was in the leading group where he remained throughout the race. Martin went on to win the sprint against Hugo Humphreys of Lee Valley Youth CC
and Brock Duncomb-Rogers of Preston Park Youth CC in the tenth and final lap . Fellow Slipstreamers Dan Maslin and David Swan rode hard to chase the leading group of older riders and finished with a well
deserved 1st and 2nd place respectively in the under 14s.

Slipstreamers start the season with wins at Hillingdon
The new season started at Hilingdon Cycle Circuit with the Finchley Racing Team’s youth race on Saturday 1st March 2008. The race that has
now become the traditional opener to the summer season attracted riders
from clubs across the south of England and Wales.
After six laps during which the leading bunch of nine under 16 and under 14 riders kept closely together, two riders broke away in the seventh
lap to be joined by a third rider in the eighth lap. These three riders then fought out the last two laps to finish with Sam Grant
(Hillingdon Slipstreamers) winning the sprint to finish in first place, with Max
Webber (Andover Wheelers) second and Joe Holloway (High Wycombe)third. Under 14 Dan Maslin (Hillingdon Slipstreamers) led the chasing group to
finish fourth overall and first under 14.
In addition to Sam Grant and Dan Maslin there were age category wins for Hillingdon Slipstreamers Stephanie May (Under 14 girls) and Harry Tadman
(under 8s).
The young riders are now looking forward to the series of three races organised by Beyond Mountainbikes on the 15th, 22nd and 29th March at
the Hillingdon Circuit, before the summer series of 20 races begins on 8th April.

Winter race series results 16th February 2008
The Imperial Racing Team Winter Series came to an end on Saturday 16th
February 2008 with the final race of the series at the Hillingdon Cycle Circuit
in Hayes. With many of the overall series places still to be decided over 30
young riders from all over southern England contested the final race. As had
happened throughout the 12 race series the Hayes based Hillingdon Slipstreamers
faced tough competition from visiting riders and did not have things all their
own way.
In the final race Tom Stockdale of Evesham Wheelers again finished well ahead
of the chasing bunch to win the race and take first place in the series in the
under 16s category. Third place in the race was enough to clinch second place in
the under 16s for Sam Grant ahead of Slipstreamers team mate Misha Newman in
third place.
In the under 14s category Slipstreamers Dan Maslin finished second in the
final race to take third place in the series, while Slipstreamer Stephanie May
took first place in the under 14 girls. Despite failing to finish in the top
three in either of the last two races Slipstreamer Simon Passey took first place
in the series in the under 12s.
Slipstreamer Carl Jolly won the final race to take second place in the series
in the under 10s and Thomas Barrowcliffe was unopposed in the race to take first
place in the series in the under 8s.
