The  2014/15 League held it’s final race of the season on Sunday 1st February at the iconic velodrome down south. Slipstreamers were in full action this season, and final results and overall standings were announced. We are very proud as a club to see so many of you in action representing Slipstreamers in all the age categories, and equally so when we find out just how hard you’ve worked and how well you’ve all done.

This week we celebrate the Under 10’s category, and in particular special mention to our three podium winners for the season. Very very well done to Jed Smithson for coming 1st, Pascal Giret 2nd, and Joe O’Brien 3rd.

U10 Boys Champs with Susie!

“Calshot is a lovely place and everyone there is kind, caring and helpful. It feels so friendly, especially that I am with so many friends from Hillingdon Slipstreamers there, and have made other friends from other clubs. I love the feeling of going quickly around the track; most of all it is fun.

I was a little bit nervous at the beginning of the season, and my dad who was also racing in the league, was with me all the time giving me advice, which turned out to help me a lot. I am still nervous before any race and sometimes I feel tired, or sleepy, or just a bit ill before I start my race, but as soon as the race starts I forget about all of that.

I was very happy at the last race of the season last Sunday and it was unexpected that I got 2nd place overall; it made me so happy, and I got a really great trophy which I really love very much.

Calshot is a great place with such lovely people like Susie and Tim who organise it; I can’t wait for the new Calshot League season to begin. I am still only 8 years old so I will be stronger then, and so I will try and win it next time.”

Rider Report By Joe O’Brien

“Last Sunday was the last winter track league at Calshot and our Club did really well. Especially in the Under 10s where we got top three with my friends: Jed 1st, Pascal 2nd and me 3rd. I didn’t do all the races as my dad says he likes to ride his bike occasionally on a Sunday – but strangely, whenever it was cold or raining he drove me, my sister and brother down to the warm “indoor” track.

It was great fun and really fast. Me and Jed got to ride with the under 12s sometimes and we even beat them a few times. A lady called Susie runs it she is really nice, but the judges are very strict if you don’t hold your line in the races, especially the Scratch and points races. My sister Bobbie rode in the under 8s a few times. I hate to say it but she did quite well and won a few races! So did my brother Finn, who thinks he is Sir Chris Hoy and won the last Under 8 Handicap sprint with everyone cheering him on because it was a really close finish.”
