Yes, it’s finally here – it’s all about mountain biking this weekend riders. So leave your road bikes behind, grab your mountain bikes (or hire one from your marvellous mechanics), bring along a towel and change of clothes, and get ready to put those skills you’ve learned into action. So whether you are aiming for a top 10 slot, or you may set yourself a personal goal to finish the course – either way, if the weather faeries are consistent, it will a muddy club champs and promises to be great great fun!
Please read below very carefully to make sure you know what is expected of you on Saturday, what you need to bring along, when you are racing, and how much time you have to get organised.

Parents – We Need a Few Helpers!

As ever, none of these events can be a success without the dedication of the volunteers and coaches; and of course the very welcome and much-needed help from parents. If you are a BC Young Volunteer and want to add a few hours to your logbook, this is a great opportunity to do so if you don’t fancy mountain biking yourself. Specifically, we will need help with:
  • Courses Set-up from 8:15am: Volunteers required to put in stakes and link each stake with tape. If you can help, meet outside the clubhouse at 8.15am; or if you arrive after do find us on the course after that. There is plenty to do!
  • Race Marshals: We need a few helpers to monitor sections of the course to ensure the riders follow the correct route. Please see Alex A or Mark D (photos on the noticeboard!), or let sign-on team know (by reply or at the club first thing).
  • Dismantling the Course: Volunteers to help do the clear up and collect stakes and tape from the grounds when it’s all over!
Don’t worry if you’ve never done any of the above before – we will explain it all clearly. Plus, it’s a great way to help your club!
Who May Take Part: ALL paid up Slipstreamers members are allowed to take part – even if you’ve only been with us for a few weeks. You do not need to have passed your MTB Bronze to race on Saturday, and nor do you need to be an expert mountain biker. All you need is a bit of enthusiasm and desire to have fun.

Please Heed the Following Important Notes for Tomorrow:

  • Early performance session sign-on as normal from 8.15am if you would like an early warm-up and workout. Be signed on and ready to ride by 8.30am sharp. Parents: while your kids are riding we could use your help with the course setup!
  • Normal sign-on will commence at 9am and close at 9.30am – if you are late, you will not be able to take part in your races, so be on time! We will not be signing anyone on after 9.30am. No exceptions.
  • Warm-ups are mandatory; equally, the reconnaissance laps afford you a chance to get a feel for the course. Don’t be late for yours!
  • Only mountain bikes are allowed for the races – NO cyclo-cross bikes allowed. You may hire bikes from the mechanics, but demand is likely to be high so arrive in good time if you need to hire one.
  • If you have a hybrid, as long as it’s a flatbar, and the tyres are not narrow or slick, this should be fine. Bring it along, but be prepared to hire a MTB if the coaches deem your hybrid inappropriate.
  • Mountain bikes MUST have bar-end plugs. No exceptions.
  • There will be NO road bike activities and no normal development sessions.
  • There WILL be Cyclo-cross behind the clubhouse if you don’t wish to race, or if you wish to join before/ after your race.
  • It is cold now – please dress accordingly. Layer up, and plan for rain, just in case.
  • Bring a towel, a change of shoes and a set of dry clothes – it is cold and likely to be wet on Saturday. You will require this after the race.
  • There are NO gear checks for these races.

We Love Mud. Really We Do. BUT…

Mud is messy and the volunteers who stay behind to clean the clubhouse don’t like it as much as the mountain bikers. SO…
  • Keep it out of the clubhouse!
  • Remove muddy shoes before entering – take them off after competing. DO NOT COME INTO THE CLUBHOUSE WITH THEM ON. You will be moaned at if you do, and asked to clean up your mess there and then.
  • Do NOT enter clubhouse with mud attached to your clothing – try and shake off as much mud as possible outside. Don’t do this in front of the clubhouse please – it will only be dragged inside. Apply common sense.
  • Please do NOT leave the changing rooms, toilets or any other part of the clubhouse you walk through covered in mud. If you make a mess, clean it up.
Much as we, the volunteers, WISH there were a magical fairy or automatic robot cleaner to clear mess – there isn’t one! We have to leave the clubhouse in as clean a state as possible for the people who have hired it after us, so we ask for your co-operation and your help in ensuring the clearup is as simple as possible.
