Ho ho ho! It’s December again, Club Champs are done and dusted, and it’s that time of the year where we gather in the clubhouse to celebrate the successes of our members during 2019, say thank you to our wonderful volunteers, and of course, have a party to round it all off!

We have more awards than ever to hand out this year – 140 in fact – so please do join us on Saturday 14th December 2019  ready to support your fellow Slipstreamers and have a good time!

Aside from the Club Champion awards, there are many other awards for Most Improved riders, your Volunteers are celebrated, and there are a whopping 20 Special Recognition Awards to hand out this year – who knows, it could be you.

So read on to find out what to expect and what you need to do and bring along. The full schedule and running bottom is at the end of this post…

Coaching Sessions…

There will be an early Time Trial and shortened skills session before the awards ceremony starts on Saturday. The Time Trial is open to members, parents and volunteers, and will finish at 9.30am. The main skills session will start at 9.30am and will finish at 10.15am. Full timings are noted at the end of this post. Note that you do not need to cycle on Saturday if you don’t want to, and are welcome to just join the awards party.

Note that there is NO payment required for this Saturday’s session, but for health and safety reasons and in the event of a fire drill, everyone must all still sign on. If you have decided not to join the Time Trial or the Skills session, you will still need to sign on. Parents please help us ensure this happens.

*IMPORTANT* There will not be access to the main clubhouse room until 10.15am while Chief Elf and Co set up and get everything ready. You will have access to the toilets and changerooms via the back door near the classroom, however please keep out of the main clubhouse. Wrap up warm and ensure you are dressed comfortably if you arrive early and are not cycling.

Kicking Off The Awards Presentation…

The first awards – announcement of the highly anticipated Club Champions – will start being handed out promptly around 10.30am inside the main clubhouse, so make sure you are signed on and seated by then. We have a LOT to hand out, so please help us by ensuring you are on time and being respectful to those presenting and receiving the awards; and of course paying attention as it could be your name that is being called out. We won’t have time to wait or look for you anyone, so be sure to pay attention so as not to miss your opportunity to stand on the podium and shine!

Food, Glorious Food…

As usual, the North Pole Crew will be laying out a delightfully nutritious spread of snacks, nibbles and treats for our members and volunteers to quell ravenous appetites and ensure there are no hunger-driven tantrums! If any industrious parents fancy baking or bringing along a few nibbles and treats for the party, do feel free to do so! Food will be served around 12.30pm, just in time for lunch, so make sure you have a good breakfast to keep you going until then!

Fun & Games…

Once all the awards have been handed out, there will plenty to keep you entertained until our special guest from the North Poles makes an entrance. There will be bike jenga, skills games, sack races, limbo, tug of war and all manner of challenges outside at the front of the clubhouse – if you want to bring along your mountain bike so you can join in, do! The now legendary Wrighty’s 10p game will also be played, so bring a few 10p coins with you as well – if this is your first Xmas party with us, it will all make sense on Saturday!

We will also be having a Best Festive Helmet competition so feel free to dress up your helmet. You are also most welcome to put on your best festive attire – and who knows, we may dish out a few spot prizes for the most christmassy amongst you! Please remember to ensure no decorations you use will come off or impair your vision while you are playing games or cycling about on your bicycles – Elf & Safety will be out and about and we don’t want anyone getting into trouble (or hurt)!

Welcoming Santa Claus & His Elves…

Make no mistake, we do our best to host a good party, and what better way to do that then invite the most magical and important guest of the season to brighten things up! Santa Claus will be taking the Rudolph and the Reindeer crew on a pre-Xmas sleigh test flight, and will be making a pit stop at our party (shhh, don’t tell non-Slipstreamers!).

We have it on VERY good authority that there will be a few sacks filled with presents to be handed out, so listen out for your name when Santa and the Elves start calling them out! As usual, Santa welcomes contributions to the Santa Sack for each child, so parents do read your newsletter for further instructions…

And Finally…

Our aim is to wrap things up around 2pm ish so we can tidy up and be out of the clubhouse in good time. Volunteer helpers to clear up will be most welcomed so if you can stick around and help us tidy up that would be appreciated. If anyone has any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out, otherwise we will see you all on Saturday ready to have a great time.
